[edit] Biography

I'm a 34 year old "laaaadddy". I was born and grew up in Ontario (Toronto area). The Mahoney's where a clan from Cork, Ireland whom immigrated to TO to drink and join the police force. My grandfather is a perfect example; he played pro hockey for New York, retired to the Toronto police force, yes he was Sgt. Mahoney. The one thing that always stood out about Toronto to me was the theatre. My uncle worked as the lighting director for many Andrew Lloyd Webber productions (Jacky rogers Jr) and many others. I was introduced to the magic of performance as a kid, by hanging out with him in the wings of some the greatest old time theaters in Canada. (Royal Alex, Pantages, O'keefe). I was hooked early and that was it. As a teenager, I would frequent the Old Fire Hall Theatre and watch the Second City Improv shows. Then when I was old enough, you had to be 18 then, I studied improv with them for about 2-years. Then I left Ontario for a bit of french/Canadian culture (poutine,beer) to attend Bishop's University, just outside of Metropolitan Montreal. I studied here for four years and received an Hons BA in Theatre Arts and Psychology. (my favorite part was doing Russian clowning with Mump and Smoot and poutine, bear). After graduation, I moved out west and in 1999, I started doing stand up. I liked performing , but found the stand up scene a bit overwhelming(I thought high school was over) and wanted to do something different. On Canada Day 1999, I performed my first ever solo street performance based on a burlesque clown from the mump and smoot workshops. I was was again hooked and for the next 7 years, ate, slept, breathed everything about street theatre. It has been incredibly great to me. It has taken me all over the world and allowed me to perform at such respected festivals as; The Edinburgh Fringe(UK), Glastonbury Festival(UK), Avignon Festival(France), Koblenz festival(DE), The World Buskers festival (NZ) and many many more.

Sharon Mahoney hosts here own Sunday Night show at Checkers Sunday Comedy Night, she also does stree performing on the weekends and in the Summer heads out to Toronto to perform there. She is Headlining Laff Riot Girls Night at LaffLines New Westminster
