[edit] Biography

Dr. Russell Kennedy is a practicing medical doctor, professional stand up comedian, corporate speaker, and certified yoga and meditation teacher. Russ earned his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada in 1991, graduating as president of his medical class. After graduation he moved back to his hometown of Victoria, BC for internship and practiced emergency medicine & obstetrics until settling into full service family practice in 1993. He maintained his practice in Victoria until moving to Vancouver British Columbia in 2004 and continues to practice medicine.

Russ has been a corporate speaker since 2001, and since that time has given Work Life Balance presentations to medical conventions and general audience events across North America. He has a personal interest in working with physician support groups, addressing the ever increasing problem of burnout among doctors. However, it's not only doctors that are stressed out these days, and he believes that work life balance is attainable for all, and offers ultimately practical ways to get off of life's treadmill and get back in balance with our inner selves in his presentation "A Refill on your Perception".

Dr Kennedy has practiced traditional Western medicine for over 15 years and in the last two years he has added aspects of Eastern medicine to his practice, especially in dealing with stress and mental illness. To this end, Russ took his interest in mind-body medicine a little further and became a certified yoga and meditation teacher. He has found that teaching yoga and meditation has shown very powerful healing effects. Russ integrates features of Eastern mind body medicine, believing that given the right conditions, the body has a natural ability to heal itself. Dr. K also believes that as a by-product of living in our "success" driven society, we have each developed an overly demanding inner voice that drives us faster and faster to the point that we are constantly over-riding this natural ability to feel calm and get some real perspective (and inner peace) in our lives. Dr. Kennedy is distressed that many of us are stressfully "multitasking our lives away" with the truly misguided thought that more money or possessions will lower our stress and make us happy. The drive for for personal status has overtaken our drive for fun, and we simply dont enjoy life's simple pleasures or laugh as much as we should.

To that end, “Dr. Russ” has been a stand up comedian since 2003 and has been considered professional since 2004. He has been interviewed by Fanny Kiefer on her "Studio 4" TV show, and has also appeared on CBC and CTV Television. On the airwaves, you can hear him across Canada and the United States on Satellite XM radio, Laugh Attack, Channel 153. He performs frequently, and has toured Canada with the Yuk Yuks comedy chain. Russ has been proud to be invited to perform at the Vancouver Comedy Festival in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
